A different gift idea for the plant lover and gardener, even those with a purple thumb!

A unique landscape under glass can be enjoyed for well over a year, if cared for properly. Many terrariums with a lid can be virtually neglected once the right balance of moisture and light is established. Several kinds of plants thrive well in the humid atmosphere within the case/jar, and I try to make sure the base plants are well established and adapted to their environment. The addition of endearing miniatures completes the little world you can enjoy. Just make sure the jars are kept inside, in bright, indirect light – not in a sunny window. Terrariums do great in fluorescent light, so can be a nice addition to your desk at work. Watering only needs to be done, at the most, once a month. See the link below for more information on caring for your terrarium.

A desertscape, also known as a desertarium, is another peaceful view of nature captured under glass, with a pleasing mix of cacti and succulents in a gravel and sandy potting medium. They only need to be watered every few weeks when the soil has dried out. Desertariums do not have lids so air can get in and keep the environment on the arid side. I use grapewood and interesting rocks to embellish the desertscapes.

Container and Fairy Gardens

Let one of my mini creations transform that unused corner of the yard or spot on the patio into a miniature vista. With proper care, an outdoor whimsical fairy garden or a theme container can be enjoyed starting in the Spring, be in full bloom all Summer and last right through to Fall! Many of these gardens will do well outside in the elements, but some may need to be under an eave for some protection. No garden space available? You can enjoy a mini container garden inside by a sunny window! Some of these small gardens have handmade brick or stone patios and pathways with real concrete worked into them, enhancing their realistic charm!

Container gardens can also be used as a centerpiece for a baby shower, on tables at a wedding reception, or something unique on your desk!
